A little about the person behind Tri-Cities Wargaming and why this community resource exists.
PLAYER PROFILE
Hey, I'm Austin.
I tend to describe myself as a "hobby collector." When something interests me, I have a habit of diving into the deep end. I've been playing Magic: The Gathering for more than a decade, playing Dungeons & Dragons for years, and my wife and I have built up a sizable board game collection. In early 2025, Warhammer 40,000 became the latest addition to the list.
A dear friend helped me learn the basics of 40K, but before long I was looking for more people to play so I could get more games under my belt and continue learning. By pure chance, I met another player at DeWayne's World in Kingsport who pointed me toward a couple of local Discord communities.
Through those groups, leagues, and open play events, I went from nervously signing up for my first beginner league to having a whole community of people to play with.
What stuck with me was how welcoming everyone was — and how easily I could have missed all of it. These groups and players were already here. I simply didn't know where to find them.
That's why I created Tri-Cities Wargaming. I wanted to build an easy on-ramp for the next person looking for what I was looking for: more games, new friends, and a local community.
Whether you're learning your first game or you've been rolling dice for decades, I hope this site makes it a little easier to find the people, places, events, and communities that make tabletop gaming in our region special.
